Our Classes

Puppy Kindergarten: Walking on a leash, sits and downs, coming when called are some of the exercises taught. Your puppy will be socializing with other puppies and their owners. Completing the class makes you eligible for the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program. This is a 6 week class.

At the American Kennel Club®, we're not just champion dogs. We're the dogs' champion -- all dogs. We believe that all dogs deserve training and a responsible owner and our goal is to reward responsible dog ownership.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class.

Level 1 Obedience: You will be working on a better relationship with your dog. How to walk on a loose leash, down, sit, and stand stay and come when called. We will offer obstacles for your dog to master. The goal is to achieve a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) at the end of this class. This is a 7 week class. No dogs on the first night.

Level 2 Obedience: For dogs that have completed Level 1 or by permission from the instructor.

This class builds on Level 1, works on attention, heeling with dog at your side, sit and down stays from a distance, come and sit, how to get your dog back to heel position (at your left side). In addition, some of the basic Rally exercises are taught. Those who have yet to achieve a CGC may do so by the end of this session. This is a 6 week class.

Novice Obedience: The first step in competition obedience. Completed Level 2 or by permission of instructor. This is a continuation of Level 2 with added training.

Now the training gets more specific. This class works on the fine points of your handling skills. How to enter a ring, setting the dog up for the first exercise, heeling (on and off leash) and keeping the dog’s attention on you, foot work, finishing after a recall, sit/down stays, etc. are just a few of the requirements in this exercise. Keeping it fun for you and your dog is essential. In addition the dumbbell will be introduced as will the High Jump and Broad Jump (depending on the age of your dog).

Open and Utility Obedience: Open and Utility are drop in/ongoing classes for the serious competitor.

If you are:

These are the classes for you.

Rally: AKC Rally is the new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm, a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers an experience that is fun and energizing. The canine team moves, at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing.

Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience.

Communication between handler and dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, but there should be a sense of teamwork between the dog and handler.

Rally is comprised of three levels. Novice, the first level, done on leash and has between 10-15 stations. Advanced, the second level, is done off leash and has 12-17 stations which includes one jump. Excellent, the third level, is also off leash and has 15-20 stations and two jumps.

Novice, Advanced and Excellent are 7 week classes.

Conformation: This ongoing class is for those competing or those who wish to learn how to compete in the breed ring. Ring procedure, how to present your dog, stacking, gaiting etc. are a few of the things gone over.
